My brother was in his end stages of Alzheimers. I received a message from the hospital that he had to go home or to a facility, but could no longer be helped at the hospital. AHFS helped me locate a home for my brother the same day. California Home For Seniors made my life so easy at such a difficult time. Without their help I wouldn't have known what to do. Thank you to all the staff members for their information and endurance, and for giving us peace of mind.

I am writing on behalf of my father, Jacob. He asked that I thank you for him for all of your help during this difficult time. I too wish to thank you for your ongoing concern and endurance in assisting my father in finding appropriate living arrangements for my parents. Your knowledge and ongoing support have helped ease the burden.

What are board and care homes?

General Information:

Residential care communities are for seniors who need at least a little help in their day-to-day lives. Many seniors who live in residential care communities are still very able-bodied, but they may require assistance with cooking, cleaning and other household tasks. Residential care communities share several similarities with retirement communities, offering cottages, homes and apartment style units for residents with various social and medical needs. Many of these communities offer group exercise classes, shopping trips and other events which benefit residents socially and emotionally.

Assistance Levels:

  • Assistance with daily living or “ADL’s” may include assistance with:
  • Bathing assistance twice a week or as needed
  • Dressing & Grooming assistance
  • Medication Management
  • Alzheimer’s & Dementia care
  • Daily Ambulating assistance to and from common activities areas and dining
  • Incontinence Care:
    • Note: supplies are usually not included

Payment Options:

The services and level of care available in an assisted living facility, as well as the costs for these services, can vary. Assisted living costs may be all inclusive, or the costs of assisted living services may be added to a base monthly fee.

  • SSI
  • Veteran Benefits
    • In most cases the assisted living community can assistance the family to apply for veteran benefits which may take from 6 months – 1 year but guarantee a veteran who is:

      • widow of veteran approximately $1,000
  • Pensions
  • Savings
  • Family financial support

These communities do not accept any medical insurance such as Medicare or Medical for payment of services due to the fact that they are categorized as non-medical facilities.

Age Range:

These communities may in some cases be appropriate not only for the 65+ age range but are allowed a certain percent of occupancy under this age if they are with any particular disability.

Price Range:
